Earlier this week, NBC Park Ranger Clayton Carlson photographed evidence of a couple of small fires lit within the hillfort by persons unknown. The damage caused to the hillfort constitutes criminal damage under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 and the perpetrators can be prosecuted and taken to court.
In addition, barbecues and open fires are NOT allowed anywhere within our Parks and anyone caught lighting or tending one is liable for prosecution under the Criminal Damage Act 1971 for arson.
If you see anyone messing about with fire, please report it to NBC at 0300 330 7000, so that the Park Rangers can be alerted. If you think criminal damage is being, or is likely to be, caused, please ring the police using 999.
Please heed the signs.
