We want to introduce some art into West Hunsbury Parks

The Friends of West Hunsbury Parks have been awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to move the old oak tree logs from Green Lane (behind Whaddon Close) to various park locations so that they can be carved into artistic benches and, if money allows, an interactive sculpture.

The grant is sufficient for us to get the logs moved to their final destinations around the various parks, and to engage Peter Leadbeater, a renowned chainsaw artist, to carve 2 artistic benches and 2 simpler benches.

Unfortunately, the Heritage Lottery grant is not enough to create an interactive sculpture as well.

CAN YOU HELP? We are looking for £6,000 funding to allow us to retain Peter Leadbeater to carve an interactive sculpture in addition to the 4 benches. If you are willing to sponsor us for the whole amount, that would be fantastic, but if you can only afford a small donation, we would welcome that just as much. Please contact us by our email FriendsOWHP@gmail.com if you can help. Or use this QR Code to go straight to our donations page :

Please take a look at Peter Leadbeater’s website to see the amazing sort of things he has already done : https://www.peterleadbeater.com/ .

The logs will be moved on Fri. 17th / Sat. 18th May, so be prepared for slow journeys along Hunsbury Hill Road and Ladybridge Drive on those days. We will be using Daniel Brown and his draft horses to do the moving.  Go to Daniel’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DanielBrownHorseman/ for a link to his website to see the sort of things he and his horses do.

We don’t have specific dates for the carving yet. This will be weather-dependent, but it will probably be done May/June. We expect the carvings to take 3-4 weeks, so there will be plenty of time to see Peter at work. We will provide more info. when we get it.
