West Hunsbury Parish Council are joining in the national beacon lighting event on Thursday 2nd June to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee ~ the first British sovereign to have achieved 70 years as monarch.
Beacon chains are a long-standing British tradition for communication warnings as well as celebrations between communities and over 2,000 beacons are going to be lit at prominent locations all over the UK (and beyond) at 9:45 p.m. BST.
Before that, at 9:40pm, a bugler will play a specially written Bugle Call to introduce the beacon lighting.
WHPC suggest that you aim to get to St. Benedict’s Church for 9:15 p.m. so as to not to miss any of the fun. The Friends of West Hunsbury Parks have agreed to keep the adjacent car park open until the ceremony is completed, to avoid congestion on Hunsbury Hill Road.
WHPC are now seeking a notable West Hunsbury resident who can have the privilege of lighting the West Hunsbury beacon.
- Do you know the oldest resident in West Hunsbury ?
- Or someone with the same birthday as the Queen ?
- Or someone born on 6th February 1952, which is when Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne ?
- Or someone who is otherwise worthy of this honour ?
If you know of someone, please contact Cllr. Linda Hook at lindahookpc@gmail.com.
