The BloodAxe Vikings will be back (& Armée du Nord Normans too)

After Sunday’s fantastic turn out, not only of Vikings, but Normans and Northamptonians too, we did a litter pick and tidy up in the Country Park on Monday afternoon.

Thankfully, it wasn’t at all onerous. Everybody had been very respectful of the environment and either used the bags and bins provided or took their litter home, so thank you to everyone who turned up and made the BloodAxe event such a (tidy) success. We went for the usual post-litter pick complimentary refreshments in the Drovers Return afterwards and were pleased to see that Colin and Marion have recovered from the busy, busy, Sunday. Well done to all Drovers staff for lasting the day and thank you for feeding a couple of dozen ravenous Vikings first thing in the morning.

We know we enjoyed the event and, from the many comments received, you the public did too. The Vikings and the Normans have both said that the hillfort is probably the best site they have ever used and have asked if they can come back sometime. We said “YES, PLEASE!”. We are aiming for something later this year so keep an eye on this website for details.

For those of you who missed it, our local Northampton BloodAxe Vikings were joined by Wodens Hearth from Peterborough, Northland Mercenaries from Derby, and the Armée du Nord Normans, also from Northampton.  There were plenty of fighting and training demonstrations as well as a couple of full-pitched battles where everyone seemed to be killed several times over. In between the ‘clashes’, the Vikings and Normans were busy all day answering questions about their weapons and shields, artifacts, and lifestyle.  Great entertainment.  Thanks to all of you.

We have put our favourite  photos of all the action in our Gallery and we also have a  link to undoubtedly the best photos of the day, taken by Chris Stone.
